At night, after I had calmed down and Blake came back, it was time for confrontation. I trusted my brother with my life, but I didn’t trust him with his own. He must have traded something big with that demon to keep him off my back.

“How was your day, Smurfette?” he asked, sitting beside me on the sofa in our living room. He offered me a can of soft drink he bought with him while sipping on one of his own.

Taking it, I ran my gaze over the label. “Fine. How was yours?”

“Good, considering the burden is off my face.” He pointed to his nose, bared of the heap of bandage that had been occupying the spot for more than a week. The bone was back to its normal structure. Straight and pointy. But there was still a scar, burning red, reminding him of the danger that Dimitri Kingston posed. No wonder his disdain towards the man.

A sigh left my lips.

“Is something bothering you, Smurfette?”

I nodded, still looking down. “I have been meaning to ask you something.”

“Shoot.”

I finally turned my eyes towards him to gaze at him deeply. “What happened in that club’s VIP room with you and Montero that night?”

His hand stopped midways with the drink, and his throat bobbed with a visible gulp. He turned to me, brows creasing.

“I want to know what made him stop bothering me.”

He exhaled loudly, putting down the can on the coffee table, and looked at me. “You are doubting me.”

Putting down my drink as well, I fully turned to him. “No. Of course not. I’m only asking how you did it.”

“I asked him to stop,” he said flatly.

I frowned. “That’s it? You asked, and he obliged?”

“What do you want to hear?” His brows furrowed. like he was getting pissed. But no matter what, I needed my answer.

“The truth, which you’re not telling me.”

“Fine!” He threw his hands in the air, standing up. “I requested him. Begged him.”

He marched away but I went after him.

“Caveman,” I called behind him.

He stopped, whirling around. “Just know that whatever I do will never cause you any harm, Hazel.”

Hazel, not Smurfette.

My heart bled a little more that day.
